CoverGirl’s Intense ShadowBlast Review

After using this product for 12 days, I am ready to give you all some feedback about covergirls intense shadow blast. But first let’s see what covergirl claims about this product-Discover rich, waterproof eyeshadows with a built-in primer for color that lasts for hours.

My findings after 12 days- I think this is one product you can go ahead and skip in my opinion. Why I say that is because after I started to use the product my eyes started to burn for the first 5 minutes but I continued to try it (I have heard from others who found the same discomfort) also the eyeshadow is not very pigmented, hard to work with (don’t use the applicator or it will go on streaky, apply with brush or fingers; make sure to blend well), it’s very glittery (more for evening wear maybe that’s what they meant by intense; tons of glitter). The consistency of the eyeshadow is a whipped mousse and a tad waxy. Now I will say to it does stay on- mine lasted up to 9 hours out in humidity. For me though covergirl made this out to be an intense color and it is defiantly not intense, but it lasts all day and you truly don’t need a primer with this shadow. So the choice is yours if you would like to pick up one of these the next time you’re in the need for a new shadow, they come in 6 color’s for about $6 at drugstores and discount retailers nationwide.

Remember this is just my opinion.

Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara Review

I have used this product for a week now so I could give you all a complete review. I purchased the waterproof version in blackest black. The claim from Revlon about this product is it’s a Conditioning formula that helps strengthen and plump lashes more than 2X instantly for maximum volume. What I found with this mascara is that it’s a very dry mascara so multiple layers leads to clumping. It had a tendency to weigh down my lashes and not hold the curl. After a couple of hours of wear I also saw flaking and smudging (this is a very poor waterproof formula) and as for the 2x volume in my opinion that was obsolete. My recommendation is skip this mascara all together if you find yourself reaching for it in the store. I also tried this formula on my sister as she has different lashes then me and we got the same result.

The Quest for the perfect mascara continues with the Battle of the Falsies-Maybelline’s Original Falsies waterproof formula vs. Maybelline’s Falsies Flared waterproof

VS.

First up-the claims for Maybelline’s Original Falsies
False lash glam, instantly!
• Patented Spoon Brush fans out lashes from corner-to-corner, while our Pro-Keratin formula instantly builds volume without clumping
• Unique flexible wand helps to lift and separate lashes to provide the look of 300% more visible, fuller lashes, no gaps from any angle
• Contact lens safe and ophthalmologist-tested
• Waterproof
Claims for Falsies Flared
False lash glam with a flare, instantly!
• Patented Spoon Curler Brush fans out lashes from corner-to-corner, while our Pro-Keratin formula instantly builds volume without clumping.
• Unique flexible wand lifts and separates lashes to provide the look of 300% more visible, lashes.
• Contact lens safe and ophthalmologist-tested.
• Waterproof
So as we can see the claims seem quite similar so let’s try them out. At first glance I found the brushes of the two mascara’s to be quite different the Flared brush is much larger then original grabbing more product, the original formula is much creamier then the flared with the flared being a drier formula( leaving me wondering how long this product will last before drying out). Also the original formula seemed to clump a little during application. I see similar effects in both mascara’s with volume but do see more length in the Falsies Flared. After wearing them both for 8 hours I have found that neither formula has flaked but the original Falsies did not keep the curl like the Flared did. So in my opinion Falsies Flared is the one to get hands down between the two, now I can say I did not feel that with either formula my lashes were 300% more visible, but Falsies Flared did provide separation, length, volume with no clumps or flakes. So I would recommend you give it a try if you were looking at these two products just be aware of the drying of the product. Remember this is just my opinion.

They're Real! Mascara Benefit Review

Being addicted to mascara as most of us are, I feel we are all searching for that perfect one. When new mascara’s launch most of us try them with high hopes that they will deliver what they claim- 7x volume, lengthening, curl, no clumping and so on… I have tried almost everything; from Rimmel to YSL, L’Oreal to Dior, Maybelline to Chanel and everything in between so when I heard about Benefit’s “They’re Real” I was excited as Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash is in my top ten list of mascara’s. So what’s all the hype? Benefit claims The exclusive brush is specially designed to maximize the performance of the long-wearing, glossy formula-revealing lashes you never knew you had! Staggered bristles grab close to the root, boosting length & volume beyond belief. The precision bristles on the custom-domed tip lift, define & curl even your tiniest lashes. The end result...luxurious, silky lashes that won't smudge, clump or dry out”.
Benefits Research Results-
-94% saw dramatic length and volume
-90% saw base-to-tip curl
-94% saw visible lift
-100% saw long-wearing results
-Results observed in a consumer panel survey
My Results-
The formula seems a bit messy, thick and heavy. The brush picks up a lot of product making it a tad messy. I curled my lashes first with my Shu Uemura eyelash curler and applied two quick coats of They’re Real immediately after I found myself pushing my lashes up as they were starting to fall already due to the heaviness of the formula. I saw a little length and some separation but I think if I added any more coats, it may start to clump. This was not what I expected from all the hype, so I definitely will not purchase this again.

I also compared it to my Bad Gal (2 coats as well) and you can see why I like it in the picture not as much length but such nice fullness to my lashes

so my pick is if you’re going to go with Benefit Mascara Bad Gal Lash gets my vote hands down.
Let me know what your favorite Mascara is and why.

New Urban Decay Roller Girl Palette Review

This summer Urban Decay has had some great new releases and also re-released some old favorites in new and improved packaging. One of the new releases that I picked up was the Roller Girl Palette, with 3 neutral eye shadows and one bold bright this palette is easy to go from day to night. Three out of these four shadows we have seen before Woodstock (bright pink with slight shimmer), Suspect (sheer sparkly beige) and Darkhorse (bronze plum shimmer) in Book of Shadow Palettes/Naked Palette etc..., the one new exclusive color to this palette is Verve (pale oyster shimmer) it does remind me of Maui Wowie from Book of Shadows III.

With this palette you also get Urban Decay’s cooling lip gloss in crush which I gave away because I found it to be too sticky for me and 24/7 eyeliner in Whiskey.
Overall this is a fun new palette and you really get your money’s worth of product for $32 you receive the 4 shadows (you could pick up the full size Woodstock for $17, and whiskey eyeliner ( that's only available as a duo w/ flipside for $29) and the cooling lip gloss makes it well worth the money and the packaging is beautiful which we can always count on from Urban Decay. So if you don’t have the other palettes this is definitely a must for the summer.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

Recently I ran out of my fix + and my Ben Nye Final Seal so when I was in Sephora this week I picked up Urban Decay’s All Nighter setting spray. Urban Decay claims it will keep your makeup look for up to 16 hours, I have used this for the last two days and I have to say I have been impressed with the results, my makeup looked has stayed in tacked and looked great lasting much longer then when I use fix + and does not leave me with that dewy sheen that I would get from fix +(Urban Decay does have a moisturizing setting spray called Dew Me if you are looking for that) , my biggest concern with this product though is that one of its main ingredients is SD alcohol (which is the same ingredient as Ben Nye’s Final Seal) so if I consistently kept using this product on a daily basis, my skin may end up very dry, blotchy and completely irritated. I will say if you have sensitive skin or problem skin then stay away from this product as well as it will just add to your problems. I also found the price to be quite high at $29 for 4oz. bottle. So if you have a special occasion, wedding, night out etc… I think this product is great for an every so often use but I would not recommend using this on a daily basis as for me will this be in my makeup kit, as much as I like the results for the price I will stick with the Ben Nye Final Seal as I get 16oz. for $27. As for myself on a daily basis I will have to pick up another bottle of fix +.

My New Skin Care Routine Burt's Bee Review

Let me start my saying I have not change my skin routine for at least 2 years and have always consider my Cetaphil gentle cleanser and Cetaphil moisturizing lotion my dynamic duo products and before that I used Proactive and even the Clinique 3 step system. My skin type is a combination (oily in the t-zone, dry in the cheeks, some visible pores on my nose and breaks out on my chin) Lately I have been looking for a change now I know if it’s not broke don’t fix it right, well here and there I have been having little breaks outs so that is what really prompted me to start looking for a change. Two weeks ago I came across some products that looked good enough to try and decided to pick them up. What I purchased was some products from the new Burt’s Bee acne solution line; I picked up the pore refining scrub, the clarifying toner and the daily moisturizer. In the past my skin usually reacts when I switch products a small breakout etc…but I have to say in the past two weeks my skin has not looked healthier, smoother and even brighter. I just had to rave about these products they have a nice clean light scent to them, the toner does not make your face feel tight or burn and the moisturizer is so light and not greasy at all I can use it twice a day. The featured ingredient in the scrub and toner is Willow Bark Extract; the extract contains natural Beta Hydroxy Acids, which work as a natural skin exfoliants to help unplug follicles and pores. Now remember this is only my opinion but if you have been looking at these products or even some new skin care I definitely would recommend trying these for yourself, I pick mine up at Walgreens $9.99 for the toner/scrub and $17.99 for the moisturizer a tad pricey but worth it in my opinion.

Cover Girl NatureLuxe Collection Product Review

Since I had some coupons and they were also on sale I decided to try some products from the Cover Girl NatureLuxe collection, I picked up the silk foundation in #320 Aspen, waterproof mousse mascara in #520 very black and two gloss balms in #205 tulip and #210 thistle. I have tried the products for 7 days now and feel I can give you some good feedback. Let’s start with the foundation for me it is a lightweight coverage that is nice for the summer and provided enough coverage to even out my skin tone (I used the beauty blender sponge for application). It is not heavy nor does it look cakey, has a nice clean smell to it (cucumber) and provides you a little protection with the SPF10, I do wish the SPF was a tad higher but all in all I think for the price around $13 it’s worth it.

The NatureLuxe Water Resistant Mousse Mascara I have to say is ok but I wouldn’t buy it again, I found it to be a bit runny, clump a little bit so you will need to run a clean lash brush though it, I used Mac #204 to clean up my lashes. I also found that it made my lashes fall about an hour after I curled them.

The two lip gloss balms I purchased are fantastic I recommend them to everyone the make your lips softer as you use it, provides a nice sheer hint of color with SPF15 as an added bonus. The one downfall I find for myself is I keep using it as a balm unconsciously and not look at my lips in the mirror and find myself thinking about it later and wondering if I look like a clown walking around, but then I remember how sheer the coverage; take a quick peek in the mirror and find my lips look fantastic, this is definitely a must have product and if you like lip gloss you will love this lip balm, I also find that the color stays on my lips longer then a gloss.

Hoping to beautify the world armed with creativity and my brushes

Pure Ice Crackle!

Being not very impressed by regular Pure Ice nail polish I have to say when I saw the new Pure Ice Crackle polish I was quite skeptical, but for $3.99 at Walgreens I thought I will give it I try. I like OPI Shatter with some exceptions and I was intrigued when I saw the array of colors that Pure Ice offers so I decided to give it a try. I decided to purchase two to start; I went with the flash which is white and hot couture which is a bright pink. I decided to paint my nails yellow and use the hot couture over the yellow and Wow I love them. I really like that the consistency of the Pure Ice, it is thinner than OPI Shatter so you don’t have to work as quickly as you do with Shatter , the directions for Pure Ice does say to apply 2 coats but I used only one and really liked the outcome. For only $3.99 I have to say I am impressed with the crackle that pure ice offers, love the variety of colors it comes in and will be purchasing many more. I definitely give it 5 stars and would recommend it to all. See for yourselves

Sally Hanson Challenge Day 3

During mid afternoon on the third day of wearing the Sally Hanson Salon Effects, I have lost a whole nail and even more chipping. It saddens me to say that I have had to remove them, which was virtually painless just cotton balls and acetone nail polish remover and they came right off. I really was impressed by the removal of salon effects it was quick, easy and no nail polish color bleeding on the skin that you sometimes get. So my overall review is if you are someone who wants some fun nails for a weekend or you’re going out somewhere special and you do not like to bother with nail polish then these are for you! From a cost effective standpoint $8 for 3 days is not worth the money, I rather pick up a cool color I can use multiple time. All in all it’s up to you this is just my opinion, I do have another box of Salon Effect in “Bring It On” which are the pink glitter ones so I will at least be using these once more, if you do want to try them Target has a $1 off coupon for them making them only $7.24 (that’s why I have another box). Coupon link if you want to try them out http://coupons.target.com/mcp/pd.cfm?encp=bw3Edh8NsU3vzmfu%2BCqxk1gE5kAdfbx6dC45DH8m6FuvNQDwYVl3xOH31DkRj79yzb%2BSNmiA401f%0D%0AkzhJWO6IczlWMfJbmhNKcN8k%2F7UDnrp0C6JFjeSnAKOUxKntgc7rbXniyHXdQqXF0Pyy5J4MM3LC%0D%0AE0VxgPQn&ref=nav%5Ft%5F15%5F1#

Sally Hanson Challenge Day 2

After one day of normal wear and tear with my salon effect nails I am already experiencing some minor chipping on my thumb and index fingers. I do have to correct myself and say that the packaging states “lasts up to 10 days” up to being the key words. I am just doing normal day to day activities nothing extreme, I am not even swimming this week because it’s too cold and I usually do that almost every day so the nails are not being subjected to harsh chemicals like chlorine. With chipping after one day I am not sure how these will hold up but I will say that the next time I use these (if I ever do depending on results) I may apply a top coat to them, if you are going to go ahead now and try a top coat make sure you do it with a color/pattern that does not have white in it, as it may cause yellowing of the white. Below you will find pic’s of one day of wear. Has anyone else tried these? What are your thoughts?

My Sally Hanson 10 Day Challenge

Sally Hanson’s Salon effects nail polish strips have been reviewed by others beauty bloggers and they seemed to have some good results so I decided to try them for myself. So I went to my local Wal-Mart (for about $8) and purchased them in wild child (zebra print). They are pretty easy to apply first you match up the nail polish strips to best fit your finger nail*make sure they fit inside your nail beds as they stretch to size but don’t stretch them too much of they will rip*. Now make sure your nails are clean dry, buffed and cuticles are pushed back using the white sides of the emery board and cuticle tool that is provided, your nails are prepped so let’s put on the polish. Peel off the clear plastic covering and separate the polish from backing place the polish on nail choose the side of strips that best fits your nail *cut off excess polish strip with scissors if you have shorter nails and leave enough to fold under your nail* press down on polish strip to ensure it adheres to your nail, use the pink side of emery board to file off excess polish and to shape your nail and your ready to hit the town no drying or waiting your ready to go. That seemed pretty painless now here is the challenge Sally Hanson says they last for 10 days so I will keep you updated each day and show you the progress.

Shattered...

Want a new trendy look for those nails-torn, tattered let’s talk OPI Shatter. Shatter first came out with OPI’s Katy Perry Collection in black and then they rolled out Silver Shatter in their Pirates of the Caribbean collection. Now OPI is adding even more colors to its Shatter collection promised to be available in July (you can already find the new colors on amazon.com) the new colors include Red, White, Blue, Navy and Turquoise. OPI promises a fantastic shattered look in 3 easy steps
1.       Apply base coat and two coats of your favorite OPI polish and let it dry completely.
2.       Apply one quick coat of the OPI Shatter and then wait and watch the magic happen.
3.       Finish with OPI top coat for a high gloss shine
So let’s put it to the test I started with a base coat then painted on two coats of OPI’s need sunglasses from the bright collection (yellow), and then I applied one quick coat of OPI’s Black Shatter. The Shatter dries very quickly so I was able to immediately finish the nail with OPI’s top coat. So with my first try I used a thin quick coat of the Shatter and it really did nothing but streak my nail, not the shattered effect that I was expecting. So I tried nail number two with a thicker coat and I have the shattered look as promised.
Some tips- use a thicker coat to get the shattered effect, a thin coat will leave you streaked and starting over. Do not overlap the coats you are applying or you will not get the shattered look. All in all I think this is a fun product for some funky looking nail and can’t wait to use the red, white and blue for Fourth of July.

Sunscreen is a summer must have

Whether you are heading to the lakefront, pool or even a local festival being out in the sun requires you to pick a good sunscreen to protect your skin from the damaging sun rays. Consider these quick tips to help protect your skin this summer.

·         Grab a sunscreen that protects from both UVA and UVB rays, although the sunscreen's SPF shows the amount of protection you'll receive from UVB rays, the sunscreen will need ingredients like Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide to protect against UVA rays.

·         For longer protection try a water-resistant sunblock or waterproof sunscreen, if you'll be wearing the sunblock at the beach, pool or while participating in sporting events where perspiration will wash regular sunscreen away. Sunscreens in spray form may also last longer and, as an added bonus, won't run into your eyes in the water or when you sweat. Many waterproof suntan lotions are oil based to make them last longer, so you may want to avoid them if you're prone to breakouts.

·         You may also try a moisturizer with sunscreen if you want a two-in-one application. Be sure to look for types with broad spectrum protection to shield your skin from UVA and UVB rays. Some brands also include antioxidants to protect and combat fine lines and even wrinkles at the same time.

Some of my top picks for sunscreens for this summer-

Coppertone Sport Clear Continuous Spray Sunscreen SPF 50 around $10 @local drug stores. http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/coppertone-sport-clear-continuous-spray-sunscreen/ID=prod2992947-product

Neutrogena Fresh Cooling SPF 70 Body Mist Sunblock SPF 70 around $12 @ local drugstores. http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/neutrogena-fresh-cooling-spf-70-body-mist-sunblock/ID=prod3791656-product

Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen SPF 15 is my favorite Mositurzer with SPF 15 pick this up for around $11 at local drugstores. http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/aveeno-active-naturals-daily-moisturizing-lotion-with-sunscreen-spf-15/ID=prod6030714-product

To cover or not to cover that is the question?

A question I often get asked is should I use sunscreen on my tattoo and I always respond the same way “of course you should”. Summer is here and a lot of us will be spending more time outdoors, we should be protecting our skin and that does include tattoos. UV rays can cause discoloration to your ink and you can find products made especially for the sole purpose of protecting and preserving your artwork.
 Try products like
Save your tattoo that blocks both UVA and UVB rays from the sun http://saveyourtattoo.com/

Summer Nails-Sally Hansen Review

Was at the local drugstore today and picked up 3 fantastic colors of nail polish for this summer. What I purchased was the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Rapid Red (true red), Sonic Boom (hot pink) and Lightening (bright yellow).  Sally Hansen claims that one coat will dry in 60 seconds and I have to agree that is does, the colors are very vibrant  and they also provide you with a nice short dense brush for application given you much more control when you are painting instead of the long thin flimsy brushes provided by most companies. I usually do not go for the fast drying polishes and like to stick with OPI, but I feel for the price this nail polish is a must for everyone you can pick it up in a wide array of colors at your local drugstore for around $5.

Perfect Skin from Perfekt Beauty

When I was at Sephora last week I decided to pick up some products from Perfekt Beauty, their claim is your skin only better. I purchased the body perfection gel in golden and cheek perfection gel in blushed these are newer product at Sephora and quite a pricey purchase $48 for the body perfection and $28 for the cheek perfection gel. The body gel gives you a nice golden glow with some shimmer and does even out your skin nicely but lacks on the coverage aspect, so if you are looking to cover up veins on your legs this will not do the trick, but if you are looking for a nice shimmering glow this product could be for you. I do think there are some similar products that will give you the same type of result without breaking your bank ( try Jergens natural glow daily moisturizer around$8 @ drugstores and discount retailers). The cheek perfection gel is a product that I may purchase again, even though the tube looks small (.33 oz.) this cheek gel will last you some time as you only use one squirt for both cheeks and it provides you enough blush that lasts all day. It’s a beautiful berry color that brings a lot of life to your face. Perfekt products are free from Parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic Fragrances, Phthalates, GMOs, Triclosan. My recommendation is that although I like the cheek gel this is not a brand I will be stocking up on anytime soon and there are much cheaper alternatives that do a better job for a quarter of the price. Sorry Perfekt you’re just not for me.

3 Tips for Stunning Summer Legs

·         First prep your legs by removing all those dead skin cells through exfoliation you can make a great homemade scrub with two simple ingredients ½ cup of raw sugar then add enough olive oil to moisten your mixture, if you rather pick something up I recommend Burt's Bees Cranberry & Pomegranate Sugar Scrub around $12 @ your local drugstore or Boots Mediterranean Body Scrub - Melon/Sugar/ Mint $9.99 @ Target. Add some firming action into the mix by adding coffee grounds the caffeine helps tighten the skin.

·         Now it’s time to remove that unwanted hair whether you wax or shave is up to you, if shaving start with a good sharp razor( the sharper the razor the less likely to nick) Venus Spa Breeze is a my personal favorite you can grab a 2pk @ Wal-Mart for $13.34. Now add your favorite shaving cream or gel for women as these are designed for a close shave and are packed with moisturizers to keep things smooth. Try Gillette for Women: Shave w/Silk Dry Skin Vitamin Rich Botanicals Satin Care Gel or Aveeno Positively Smooth Shave Gel @ Target, Wal-Mart and drugstores around $5. Shave against the grain of hair growth, rinse and pat dry.

·         Your legs are now smooth and ready for moisturizer, be sure to moisturizer within 5 minutes as your legs are not completely dry and will absorb the most hydration. Cetaphil for dry, sensitive skin moisturizing cream is great for all skin types and can be found in drugstores, Target and Wal-Mart for around $8. You may find your legs might be a tad pale for those shorts; sundress and skirts to give your legs a sun-kissed glow try Jergens Natural Glow Revitalizing Lotion or Jergens Natural Glow Express Moisturizer both around $9 @ Target and local drugstores.

.

6 Summer Makeup Tips

As the temperatures rise we start to put on those cute sundresses, flip flops and head out in the heat the last thing we want is a face full of heavy foundation, melting eyeliner and sticky lips. Though we all still want to look great but are faced with some challenges when it comes to the heat and humidity, here are a few things you can do this summer to be flawless everyday
1.       Ditch those heavy full coverage foundations for light tinted moisturizers. Try Laura Mercier tinted moisturizers they come in a variety of skin tones spf20. Mercier also makes an oil free formula- find it at Sephora.com $42 If you are in need of a fuller coverage try mineral or powder foundations Bare Escentuals makes some great mineral powder foundations with spf15 and the new matte version will keep your shine to a minimum-Sephora.com $28. Their lightweight primer is also a necessity for a flawless summer face and can be used with any fondation-Sephora.com $21

2.       Add a summer glow with bronzer. Add bronzer to your cheeks and eyes for a quick summer glow. Add some to neck to help slim out your face. Hoola from Benefit is a brilliant bronzer for most skin tones $28@ Sephora or Ulta. On a budget try L'Oreal Glam Bronze Pressed Bronzer - Glisten $10.99 or Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Pressed Bronzer $13.29@ Target.

3.       Save those cream eye shadows for fall and start using powder shadows, creams will crease and melt during the summer months leaving you looking like a mess. Use an eye shadow base for extra staying power Pixi’s eye color seal in clear is one of my favorite’s $20 @Target. Try bold powder shadow’s for a bright fun summer look NYX eye shadows are only $3.50 so you can experiment and not break your bank my two favorites cherry and summer green.

4.       Splash proof and waterproof mascaras are a must whether you are sitting by the pool or just out and about. Did you know that waterproof mascaras will hold your eyelash curl longer; non waterproof mascara formulas are heavier causing your eyelashes to fall quicker. L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Waterproof Mascara is still one of my favorites you can find it at drugstores, Wal-Mart and Target around $6

5.       Ditch those sticky lipsticks for sheer light weight balms or stains. Covergirl’s Outlast lipstain  and Covergirl Natureluxe Gloss Balm are both great for this summer and under $7 at Wal-Mart and Target.

6.       Stay fresh and shine free looking all day with blotting papers. Quick, cheap and easy to use these little miracles are a summer. Sephora matte blotting paper $8 @ also try Boscia Fresh Blotting Linens - Green Tea $10 @ Sephora. if blotting papers aren’t for you, you can get the same effect from Urban Decay’s De-Slick Mattifying Powder it’s a shine-stopping pressed powder that blots oil $32 @ Sephora.
